Work Centered about “The Bed”

Epidemiology of a Bed You Sleep In

Your bed, while seemingly a sanctuary, can be a breeding ground for various microorganisms and allergens that can significantly impact your health and well-being. In conclusion, understanding the epidemiology of your bed and the impact of bedding hygiene on your health is crucial. Choosing the right bedding materials, practicing good hygiene habits, and following safe sleep guidelines can help create a healthier sleep environment and promote overall well-being.

National Institutes of Health (NIH) | (.gov)

By SJ Thomas · 2014 · Cited by 29 (2023)

This study investigated the epidemiology of bedtime (BT), arising time (AT), and time in bed (TIB) as a function of age, gender, and ethnicity. Sleep diary data were analyzed for 746 randomly selected community participants.

Quality of a Bed

What are the characteristics of an ideal bed?

The most comfortable beds combine a solid frame with a high-quality, functional mattress that meets all sleep needs. It's important that the mattress provides proper spinal support and contours to the body without creating a sinking effect.

Things to Ponder - Bed Quality

Note

Managed Passing

Direct to Expiring in a Bed with the most freedom

Renting a Shared Room (RASR)

Roommate’s health is very important

Incarceration

Environment is not peaceful & the lights are never completely off

Homelessness

Always at risk

Hospitalization

Avoid as long as possible

Conservatorship

Conservator can influence what Bed you sleep in

Aside - LPS Conservatorship

An LPS Conservatorship (Lanterman-Petris-Short) is a California court order that appoints a conservator to manage the personal and financial affairs of a gravely disabled adult with a severe mental disorder who cannot provide for their basic needs, like food, clothing, or shelter. The process involves a public agency like the Public Guardian investigating the need for conservatorship and filing a petition with the court. If granted, a conservator makes decisions for the conservatee, who has rights to legal representation, notice, and to oppose the conservatorship petition.

Difference between a probate conservatorship and a LPS conservatorship?

Is a probate conservatorship different from a mental health (LPS) conservatorship? An LPS conservatorship is only for people who are seriously mentally ill and need special care (usually placement in a locked facility and/or very powerful drugs to control behavior).

Major Milestone - Outcome (2024-Current)

Material and Means to drive a car

To drive a car, you need the legal means [CDL, Proof of Insurance, current registration] to operate a vehicle and the physical materials to do so safely on public roads. This includes valid personal documents, proper vehicle registration, and a roadworthy car with essential safety features.

Bed Qualities Vary Particularly With the Features Of The Mattress

How much is spent on mattresses per year?

In 2025, the US mattress market is projected to generate $11.17 billion in revenue. This figure reflects the total amount spent annually on mattresses in the United States. Furthermore, the market is expected to grow, with an expected annual growth rate of 6.11% between 2025 and 2030 according to Statista.

Why not take in a used mattress?

Taking in a used mattress can pose several risks related to hygiene and comfort. Used mattresses can harbor allergens, dust mites, and even bed bugs. Additionally, they may have reduced support due to wear and tear, potentially leading to discomfort or exacerbating existing physical ailments.

Lived Experience – Bed Bugs (2012-2024)

>While living at Shanks Truck Stop (STS) we were chronically exposed to Bed Bug infestations.  Buster had never slept with Bed Bugs before – it was terrible.  The landlords had the tendency to take in used mattresses and sofas.  See photo below taken by the author.

Bed Bugs

Bed bugs spread primarily by hitchhiking on infested items, such as luggage, clothing, and furniture. They don't fly or jump, but they are excellent at finding ways to travel long distances by attaching themselves to unsuspecting hosts or objects.

Hint – Itch Control

>Bed Bugs have a tendency to bite your forearms.  The bits can get very itchy.  To stop the itch turn up the faucet on hot and let it warm up.  Place your forearm in the water at the highest temperature you can endure.  After about 30 seconds or so the pull your forearm out of the water – the itching should be gone.

Material - Earplugs
AirSoft® Earplugs – Corded S-13519
Promotion - HOWARD LEIGHT®

  • Unique fins provide protection and comfort.
  • Easy to insert, remove and reuse.
  • Cord allows earplugs to hang from neck when not in use.

Earplug Modification

>You cut the cord off when using the earplug for sleep or rest.  We recommend using only one earplug if you sleep on your side.  Place the earplug snugly in the up ear.
